Artist's concept of IMAGE in orbit over Earth's magnetosphere.     UDF DATA ACQUISITION

The UDF tool dBAsk can be used to create a user UDF-style database and promote (install) data into it, as well as query a user UDF database. There are two environmental variables that are important to this process:

The environmental variable UDF_DATA must be set to a path on the user's local system where the user has write permission. The path specified will be the root directory for the resulting data directory.

The environmental variable UDFPROMOTE has several settings with the following meanings:
     0 - Promotion off
1 - Promotion on, but no popups signaling promote is in progress
2 - Promotion on with popup when data is promoting
3 - Same as 2, but with popup to let user know server has no data for time period

To execute dBAsk enter from the following command:
     $UDFTOOL_HOME/bin/dBAsk

(NOTE: on a PC you must execute this command from a Cygwin Window)
This will bring up the dBAsk menu

Enter the beginning and ending dates and times. Enter all four digits of the year. The day is in day-of-year form (do not precede the day number or any time values with a 0 since the value will be interpreted as octal).

It is important to be restrictive in your specifications for the data you require. For example, specifying a long time period for the data could take quite a while for the data to be promoted.

Check all three boxes under SHOW and then click on PROMOTE DATA.
